Colorado Rapids 2 suffered a 3-2 defeat to Austin FC II on Sunday night.
What happened?
The match was tightly contested, with Austin FC II scoring first through Vlad Dănciuțiu in the fourth minute. Rapids 2 struggled to find their footing, but created several attacking opportunities, including a series of dangerous breakaways and multiple corner kicks. Sydney Wathuta and Sebastian Siegler had looks towards net, but their shots were to no avail.
Turning point
In the 80th minute, Rapids 2 finally broke onto the scoresheet, with Jaden Chan Tack servicing a pinpoint ball into the center of the box, where Bryce Jamison met it in stride and guided a right-footed finish into the bottom corner. This marked Jamison's second Rapids 2 career goal and second of the season. For Chan Tack, the play resulted in his first professional assist and first with Rapids 2.
Comeback attempt
With time winding down, Rapids 2 refused to let the match slip away quietly, and were awarded a penalty in the opening minute of stoppage time, which Sydney Wathuta confidently converted from the spot to cut the deficit to one. Wathuta's goal marks his first of the season and seventh of his career. Despite a flurry of late chances, the comeback bid came up just short, as Rapids 2 fell 3-2. Rapids 2 will return home to take on North Texas SC on Saturday, July 11, currently standing 11th in Major League Soccer, 41 pts, 11W-8D-15L from 34 games, and recent form DLDLW, with their next major test being a match against San Diego on August 23, who are currently 22 points ahead of Colorado Rapids in the league standings.
